Found a very strange fact on the QI web, that 20% of all traffic accidents in Sweden involved an elk.
Following the fact link you provided, I found a 10 year old article thah the elfs just could not have read.
The article stated that the elk-rate accidents was up 20% from the year before (2005 to 2006). That added up to approx. 15% of animal related accidents involved an elk, but unclear how many non-animal accidents was reported that year.
So, strange "fact" isn't it?

OK, I hate myself for being such a nerd but I actually checked up on statistics.
So far in 2017, there has been 2618 Elk-related traffic accidents. Slightly less than wild bore accidents, but less than 10% of dear-related accidents!
