And the answer is...

N.B: This is very contentious, principally because pork has a very strong argument for being the most popular meat in the world. But I'm going to stand firm on this, because:

1) This forum is about challenging general ignorance, and one can't always be right
2) one in five people are forbidden from eating pork due to religion
3) figures are likely to be low for many researchers as goats are favoured in less developed (and information poor) countries, and are not as traceable as the western meats.

So what are all those chickens doing then? We must be eating a hell of a lot of eggs.

Are we talking about weight of meat or number of animals?

As stated earlier, goat meat is the most eaten meat in the world (540 million carcases per annum - FAO, United Nations) and Australia is the world’s largest exporter. Annual consumption is increasing at around 25.6 million extra carcases per annum.

So sayeth...cough.... the Boer Goat Breeders Association. http://boergoat.une.edu.au/meatmrk2.htm

Interesting, I've seen figures for chickens approximating 10 billion per annum in the US alone

so obviously not "number of animals"

or even weight according to the first table in this...

If you eat fish but no other meat then I believe you are a pectarian(sp?).

Can anyone confirm this?

I call myself an 'ichthyophage', as I prefer the Greek sound to the Latin of ''pescivore'. And I enjoy the looks of discomfort on others' faces when they try to say it.

That's interesting because I heard him say "I don't smoke- except cigarettes". I'm beginning to think this man a fraud.
