According to MENSA, 98% of the population have a lower IQ than me, and I don't know diddly-squat about politics, so what does that say about democracy?

What everybody seems to overlook is that Trump is very much the "will of the people".

No, he was the "will of the electoral college". Hillary Clinton got a higher share of the popular vote.

But then I've always been open about my opposition to democracy. I don't see any good reason to subject myself to the will of people of whom at least 50% (being conservative) have by definition a lower IQ than myself.

What has IQ got to do with it? IQ tests don't measure people's ability to make political judgements. It's a long time since I took an IQ test but I don't think they include any tasks involving critical thinking or the analysis of ideas.

The only way democracy can realistically work is when it's confined to a group who will directly feel its' effects - which in practice probably means groups of under about 50,000. Some things just aren't scalable.

So you're saying that if the electorate is more than about 50,000, most of them aren't affected by the result of the election?

Tony Robinson on Twitter...

Iím not a fan of bad language on twitter. Cursing rather than choosing the right word for the occasion is a little ignorant. Nevertheless following his behaviour over the WW1 memorial ceremony in France it has to be said- President Trump is a cunt, isnít he.

I really should have added 'madness' to the header of this thread

I really can't work out if that is serious or satire, but I sadly fear it's the former.

Someone's idea of intelligence is a poor criterion for restricting the voting franchise. I have met plenty of people who on paper have a head full of brains, but not an ounce of sense in any of it. They look down on humble, uneducated folk, but a local builder working with his hands and his eyes has the most practical sense, and it is practical sense, not unreal theories which should govern action.

I wouldn't want to hand all political power to builders - anyway, how would they; 'yeah, I said I'd come round to vote on Thursday but got called out to another job...'

Those affected by politics, now that is a good criterion. Let's get the placards out: 'No representation without taxation!'

The only man who could spout the following doublespeak with a straight face;

"When during the campaign, I would say Mexico is going to pay for it. Obviously I never said this...."

Reminds me of this one I saw just after he'd won the election, of his hair apparently running away
