Pitch of a string when vibrating is NOT proportional to its length but is inversely proportional. Pitch refers to frequency, "raising the pitch" means raising the frequency. For a string under constant tension, the fundamental frequency is inverse to the length. f=1/2lsqrT/mu T = tension, mu = linear density
