I know I've already missed a day, (because the festival started today), plus I'll be travelling to it tomorrow (so another day missed), but I'm off to the MagFest.

If you missed out on the Boxing Day Sales this may be of interest to you...

Quake-rattled Christchurch to re-run Boxing Day sales

Christchurch people who missed out on the sales because of the big Boxing Day aftershock will get another chance for bargains.

The Central City Business Association is planning to replay the Boxing Day sales.

Spokesman Paul Lonsdale says businesses are keen on the idea.

"Some of these traders are going to be doing some fairly sizeable discounts and we are going to engage all the rest of the city's businesses to do something as well," he said.

"We are thinking probably early February at this stage."

Lonsdale says some business damaged by quake are still closed but work is underway to get them reopened.

The 4.9 magnitude aftershock at about 10.30am on December 26 caused evacuations and extensive damage in the city.

World Buskers Festival

Jan 20th to Jan 30th - Christchurch NZ

The World Buskers Festival is the brain child of Jodi Wright. In 1994, she bravely brought out a few international buskers to Christchurch, New Zealand, at the end of January to a small but appreciative local crowd. After 18 years, the festival has grown to over 500 performances taking place over 10 days and nights, on the street and in iconic venues, to crowds of over 300,000. Summer is not summer in Christchurch without buskers performing some of the craziest acts of daring, comedy and beauty that you will ever see...

What makes the World Buskers Festival unique is that the entire festival is donation only – so whilst you may be seeing some of the best physical theatre, or street theatre acts in the world, you only pay what you think they are worth. See it all, with stage shows taking place from 11am daily at UC BUSKER PARK (Victoria Square), CATHEDRAL SQUARE, Tip Top BUSKER KID PITCH (Peacock Fountain, Botanic Gardens) and the CPIT MUSIC PITCH (Christchurch Art Gallery Forecourt). And, then the schedule of events carries on into the night with daily night sky aerial shows at the More FM AERIAL STAGE, UC BUSKER PARK and with the Christchurch Casino FIRE SHOWS at both CATHEDRAL SQUARE and the UC STAGE, BUSKER PARK.

One of the highlights of this year's World Buskers Festival has to be the Pacific Blue BUSKERS CLUB, housed in Cathedral Square, this not to be missed venue plays host to NOTHING BUT STAND UP (R18), featuring New Zealand stand-up comedy stalwarts Michele A'Court, Jeremy Elwood, Simon McKinney and Vaughn Smith, and the new and highly anticipated BUSKERS BURLESQUE (R18) - starring the fun and flirty Lili La Scala, Tanya Drewery, Kevin Joyce and Freaks in a Box.

To help guarantee you a seat at both NOTHING BUT STAND UP (R18) and BUSKERS BURLESQUE (R18), our festival info booth will be operating from 11am each day of the festival for you to exchange your donation for a venue token that will gain you entry to that evening's show. Make sure to arrive at the venue with plenty of time and enjoy a wine at the Stoneleigh Bar while you wait for the doors to the Pacific Blue BUSKERS CLUB to open at 7pm.

iSite LATE NIGHT WITH THE BUSKERS (R18) is another highlight of the festival. Hosted at The Bedford, be sure to get in early to secure your seat for a mix of busker cabaret and some of Australasia’s best comedy, including special appearances by Ben Hurley and Dai Henwood. The Stoneleigh Arts Centre COMEDY CLUB (R18) will again take place in the picturesque surrounds of the Arts Centre. The Christchurch Art Gallery will host one of NZ’s best street theatre performers – Sam Wills, back in New Zealand after rave reviews of his performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with his show THE BOY WITH TAPE ON HIS FACE. The Christchurch Casino COMEDY CABARET SERIES (R20) this year features the comedic stylings of Sammy J and Randy from the 24 - 28 January.

If anything, the 2011 World Buskers Festival promises that you can leave the house at 10am and not return till midnight – having been bedazzled all the way!

Proudly owned by the Christchurch City Council, the World Buskers Festival happens every January due to the kind support of partners – who want to bring accessible fun and colourful activities to the streets of Christchurch.

The Festival would not happen each year without the true partnerships that help bring it to life. For 2011, Strategic Partners of the festival are Pacific Blue, Stoneligh Wines, University of Canterbury and Christchurch Casino. You'll see the Festival out and about from December with the help of More FM, I-Site and The Press.
