Re:"Skiing was introduced to Switzerland by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1893." posted on website in October 2016

This information is not verified? Although he went to Switzerland in 1893 there is no proof anecdotal or otherwise that he introduced Skiing (?). In fact Christof Iselin (1869-1949) is credited with being a key figure in the formation of the first Ski club in Glarus which led to the 'development' of skiing in Switzerland. Skiing had been seen in Switzerland prior to this date. 1893 marks the start of organised skiing.

I think the point (not clearly expressed I grant you) was that Sir Arthur introduced the idea of skiing for pleasure, not just as a way of crossing expanses of snow to get to the other side.

Yet another wild fancy of the man... The only pleasurable thing about skiing is when it's over.

My fingers are itching to pencil in the missing 'le' in the thread title.
