Barack Obama is probably the person most associated with it.

He did it first on a talk show, apparently channeling Eddie Murphy who also did it on a talk show some years ago. More recently he did it at the end of a political speech, and he's also done it for laughs with Prince Harry in a promotional video for the Invictus Games.

The 'boom' bit was actually done by some background lackeys and Harry.

Other than the first and third, I had heard of none of these, but was at least able to relate to the concepts, except "mic drop". I have never seen this done in any performance by anybody.

I believe the mic drop is most associated with Kanye West and is something he frequently does in his gigs.

That would certainly explain my lack of familiarity with it. I doubt I would recognise Mr West if he bit me on the leg.

North Norse, no. That was a few weeks ago. The XL episode of Noble Rot is on this Sunday, 20th November. I'm guessing they held it back to compensate for the lack of a regular episode this week because of Children In Need, or summat.
