there is a new gene called RING (Really Interesting new gene)! I do admit that it is a RING finger domain... but it is used in poly ubiquitination for protein degredation. There are so many other cool gene names though (they all work so well!):

tinman=No heart in mutants (flies)

dreadlocks =Photoreceptors have sprout axon projections that look like dreadlocks (flies)

tribbles=Cause uncontrolled cell division

maggie=Larvae of fly never mature (flies)

dunce=Affects learning and memory (flies)

smaug=Represses nanos (dwarfs)

Groucho=Excessive bristles on face (flies)

Ken and barbie=No external genitalia

INDY=Stands for Iím Not Dead Yet, from monty python. This doubles like of flies

Cheap date=Mutants have impaired alcohol metabolism (flies)

RING=Just stands for Really Interesting New Gene

Tigger gene=A transposable element that jumps round in the DNA

Yuri Gagarin=Named after first man into space and is involved in sensing gravity

chablis, frascati, merlot, retsina, riesling, cabernet, grenache, chardonnay, chianti, pinotage, sauternes, weissherbst, zinfandel =Set of genes found inhibiting blood cell formation

Halloween Gene group=Includes genes: disembodied, spook, spookier, shadow, shade, shroud and phantom these affect steroid synthesis, which affects exoskeleton development and the embryo, making it look spooky

Clown=Mutation causes eyes to be white and red in flies

Van Gogh=Affects wing development, causes wings to have hair that swirls in flies

Swiss cheese=Mutants have holes in the brain like swiss cheese (flies)

There's the gene that forces Eurocrats to demand excessive numbers of warning posters about the handling of tree-felling equipment.

It's usually referred to as the "Be-careful-with-that-axe-EU" gene...

Jean Shrimpton shocked the Australian society, by wearing the first mini skirt to the Melbourne races in 1965.
