TIL that my boiler is not doing it's job properly, but may be under warranty so not a thing to worry about.....yet. Also, I have a leak in a radiator, but that should only be 40-50 to replace from the place that didn't give me a job, so no real stress there either.

Did you have an inspection done before you moved in, Criss? If so the inspector should have picked that up and you may have some comeback against him if the warranty thing doesn't work out.

I wondered if such matters should have been addressed in a survey.

Did not get a survey (yes, it was very remiss of me, but I just wanted to get the damn place bought!) Just put in an online request for an engineer to fettle the boiler, will be calling an elctrician to check the wiring tomorrow. Sofa and wardrobes arrive Saturday, Fridge freezer comes tomorrow. Rainbow striped crockery came today!

Survey = bargaining counter.

Maybe 10K or so off the price these days depending on the start point.

Last night, while surfing 'tinterweb, i learned of the existence of a thing called an "infinity cube" This is such a thing;

"That's interesting" I thought, "I wonder how I could make one?"

Then I remembered the large box of Meccano I now own for just such an eventuality;

Almost every day I am reminded that I know sod all about cellular telephones. It's fine at home because the good husband knows even less about them, but my stepdaughter and my students can make theirs do all sorts of things that I had no idea about.

I do actually know how to turn the screen of my phone into a mirror, because my stepdaughter showed me that one a few years back. But today I learned that it is possible to use one phone to charge another.

If you'd asked me, I might have said that you could do that with some kind of special cable, just as you can charge one car from another with jump leads. But no. As I learned from two girls in class this morning, you can charge one phone from another by placing them back to back and then issuing the right instructions.

How does that even work? Is it all done by induction (a word which I know that I've heard, but would not claim to understand), or is it just boring old magic?

Wireless charging. Induction pretty much covers it.Only certain phones can act as the charger IIRC but any that have wireless charging can charge from said phone providing it uses the same charging standard.

There are different types of induction charging and they aren't all compatible. One of the more popular ones is called Qi.

I have learned that there is such an event called 'The international festival of worm charming', whereby participants/teams attempt to make worms surface from their subterranean homes by such methods as vibrating a stick in the ground, etc.

Now there is something that everyone ought to know!

I imagine that they took the name from Chinese ideas about medicine rather than anything else. Even so ...

Further to earlier comments, I have now ordered a sign for my house bearing the name "Wyebodda". It may be the most expensive joke I have ever cracked, as the sign* cost me one penny under a hundred quid!

*cast, polished, and painted brass, so sort of worth the money.......

It'll last though.

There's kind of a precedent btw Breadfan

Back in the day when deliveries weren't even remotely only about Deliveroo.
