Well, either that, or Tswana simply has very few words.

The motto is actually 'Pula' too.

My Setswana may be very limited, but isn't a better translation in context "Living Water"? That is a Biblical reference that would be well understood in the parched lands of the Batswana. ('Wrongipedia' has it as "good luck", and even that site gets things right on occasion.)

Mine is pretty much non-existent (other than having googled 'Pula' :-)

'When it's spring again, I'll bring again, Tulips from Kyrghyzstan...'

That works.

'Nomad' is a good 'N' word for the Kyrghyz. On Victorian maps the 'Kirghiz' are the people we now call Kazakh. The men of the steppe are the 'Kazakh Kirghiz' (Nomad Kirghiz; the same word as 'Cossack') and the men of the eastern mountains are the Black Kirghiz, so instead of stealing the name of the whole Kyrghyz nation, their land should be 'Kara-Kyrghyzstan'. Still no 'N' though.

Yes but we've done the N series now! Need O-related stuff for next year. Oriental? Is the Kyrgyz Republic oriental?

I will start an O topics forum when the N series has finished recording.

It's mainly west of China, so not really. Unlike Uruguay, whose long form name proclaims it the Oriental Republic of Uruguay!

To link O-for Oriental to O-for-Oysters, an early edition of Mrs Beeton - not a work particularly known for its jokes - oysters are described as a delicacy from the East. The the next paragraph waxes lyrical about the oyster fisheries to be found in the vicinity of ... Colchester!

(Colchester and Whitstable have long been the two main centres for oyster fishing in Britain, although by now a lot of the oysters served during the annual festival in Whitstable are actually from Galway.)

I have met Kyrgyz folk (I recommend the food, by the way) and they certainly appear oriental. The Turkic peoples of Central Asia are part of the eastern world, drawing traditions from the Mongol Empire and the Silk Road.

It's the nickname I use for Wikipedia, given its unreliability, but inevitably someone has created a site actually with that name.
