I don't think he would recognise sarcasm, let alone understand it.

You mean he wouldn't understand a facepalm if it got up and hit him on the forehead?

Of course not. It would be a bad facepalm. A very bad facepalm. Fake news.

(It's scary how you read your own post in that voice)

Interesting piece on the Federal presence in Portland. Seems the officers there are probably contractors and not actual direct Federal employees.

It's probably only a coincidence that there was a sudden switch from weeks of peaceful protests to odd nights of vandalism just days after Trump announced that he wanted to send federal forces into Democrat-controlled cities. That would almost justify the action. I'm sure it is not connected in any way to the right-wing groups who have been caught pretending to be antifa online to turn protests violent.

That was a good WaPo article, Efros - I also saw that and shared it on FB.

That's got Proud Boys fingerprints all over it. I should have mentioned the contractors seem to be employees of Academi, Blackwater's latest company name.

Trying to stop people from being able to vote, and now Trump is suggesting even delaying the election, and his supporters still claim he's fighting for the ordinary people.

Any other century there would be talk of civil war at this point.

Mr Trump appears not to have grasped the notion that even if the election were canceled - which would in any case be extremely difficult for him to organise - he would still cease to be President on 20 January 2021. To change that would need an Amendment to the Constitution, and those take decades and still often fail.

I've heard a claim that if he loses the election he plans to barricade himself inside the White House and refuse to leave. Is that a silly season story - such are not rare in July and August - or is it something that really might happen?

He can try if he likes might be interesting to see what happens. I envisage perp walk or even better perp drag.

As much as he controls, he doesn't control the security teams at the White House. They aren't beholden to him, just the US government in general. You'd need a good chunk of the government to rebel with him, and the wind isn't blowing that way. He'd be dragged out, possibly privately, and spirited away.

He's just tweeted that the election should be delayed... not getting much support for that.

If that happened, and it were shown on television, I think I might never stop laughing................

Republicans flat-out reject Trump's suggestion to delay election.

Basically this is one of those tactics where you ask for something so absurd you know it isn't going to happen in order to make the thing you do want to happen a bit more likely.

The thing he does want to happen is not to have mail-in ballots, because he knows it greatly increases the chance he will lose.

Carl Bernstein was apoplectic on CNN this morning. He was basically saying it was time for the GOP to grow some, and get rid of this tantrum throwing septuagenarian twat. I may have used some of my own words there.
