Hi QI! long time since i posted but i saw a clip today involning flight with coke bottle shoes

Link to clip:

So according to a friend 4.5 dm3 gas can be pushed out of a bottle with 300kPA of pressure

I tried to figure out the math myself and got to this answer:
4.5dm3 * 300kpa = 1350 joules of energy in 10 bottles
1350 joules over 4 seconds of flight is about 350w of energy which is about 35kg lift
If we subtract 15kg of coke we get 20kg lift left.
So maintaining lift on a 70kg person for 4 seconds requieres about 35 bottles of coke. (not calculating in the lift to gain altitude).

Could this be right? Id really like to see someone fly using coke bottles

I don't think you've seen flying coke bottles. If this was flight, then his knees should have hit his nose and he wouldn't have to try to be an actor.

The Mythbusters have tried to use water bottles to fly. You may want to watch that, including their maths.

35 seems like a suitably ungainly number. Vlad may well volunteer for the honour of having Russia beat the world at this.

I just feel sorry for the grass, earthworms, etc now soaked in sugar...

I've heard that asda cola gives so much more lift than puny coke...
