No Ladies and Gents XL?

It was pushed off the schedule because of snooker, but it is filmed and ready to go if they can find a slot to put it into.

I'm at a loss as to why there's a shorter version anymore. It's just that much extra effort for the editors, who have to do their work twice. We've had the XL for so many series that I'll admit I'm spoilt now; I like my full snootful of QI.

I've been thinking the same thing, especially as the 30 minutes version feels more and more like a highlight reel. In the earliest series when there was only a 30 minutes episode and for a few series after that they were good at including a lot of banter alongside the facts, now it feels more like they're rushing through it and cutting out most of the banter, and it's the XL version that really delivers the whole QI experience.

You're missing the point. The reason for the cut down version is to keep employing people - it's the old argument of solving unemployment by paying one group of people to tip up all the bins so that you can pay another group of people to clear up the mess afterwards.

Of course, in an ideal world we'd simply have the XL version broadcast at a regular time on a regular night - but then we'd have to justify all the "unemployed" editors, controllers and so on.

Still - look on the brightside. It keeps them off the streets, stops them mugging old ladies.

I'm sure it's so when they show the episode later in the season, there'll be some new content and it's not just a rerun, so people will want to watch.

They do the XL version first and edit down from there to make the Lite version, so I guess it isn't really twice as much work to do two versions, just maybe half again as much.

So that frees up more of their time and they can get a few old lady muggings in.
