Or possibly foxglove: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxglove

Both of those are exactly the right shape; it's possibly closer to a snapdragon, but they are single flowers not growing in bunches.

Thanks :)

When you say stinks - does it reek of flowers, or of rotting flesh?

I have to say I'm not familiar with the smell of rotting flesh ... but it's definitely no flower smell. To be totally frank, it's what I would imagine rotten semen to smell like! With hints of burned plastic. It really gets in the back of your throat. It's nasty!

The flower symbologists don't like foxgloves and snapdragons either. Foxgloves mean insincerity and snapdragon means deception. When would you even use that symbolism?

Hm... Snapdragon actually smells nice and foxglove blossoms don't have top and bottom petals but are shaped like thimbles (hence their German name, Fingerhut (thumble). I hence venture that your suspect is neither of the two.

Try spitting it out instead of swallowing then.

When you're being very honest about your deception :)

Fingerhut! What a great word. I also like 'thumble'. I think it was a typo but it deserves to be a real word imo.

Sorry I can't help more with the description. I did take a photo, but I don't know how to upload them - where to host them etc. I was thinking of creating a flickr, but I've not worked up the courage to be someone who thinks they're good enough for a flickr yet.

Same in Dutch - vingerhoed (= fingerhat = thimble)

Imgur is better than Flickr if you just want straightforward image hosting.

Himalayan Balsam

The bane of our nature reserve. The bees love it, but it's horribly invasive and crowds out all the other plants.

Thank you!

I don't know what to do with that information now I have it ... just steer clear of seeds I guess.

Strangely the Wiki mentions a sweet smell and not an absolutely awful smell. Perhaps I am part plant and can smell the toxins.
