Let us not forget Dudley Doright, the heroic Mountie.

Just a point, but the pronunciation should be:

Dud-lay.

I know, my former employers head office was based there and we frequently needed translators.

Shouldn't it be 'Dudloi'?

The correct pronunciation of Dudley is 'Dud-lee'.

It seems an awfully long time to wait before posting a comment which seems to miss the point.

Oh well, at least it gives me the opportunity to opine that there is, perhaps, a missing third syllable in the middle of the local pronunciation of the town, perchance the vaguest hint of a schwa between, so we get:

Dood-(uh)-lay

(Alas, I can't work out how to type the 180 degree rotated "e" that is the proper symbol for a schwa)

It depends on your computer, but chances are you can't type it directly. You can either copy and paste it from a word processor document, or you can enter a secret code. (Ampersand-Hash-Six-Nought-One-Semicolon)

Either way, here are half a dozen that you can use to pepper and salt your posts as you please.

ə ə ə ə ə ə

(Hex Unicode value 0259 - decimal 0601 - for those who know what that means.)

Anyone who sees a question mark or a square box needs to get some more up to date fonts organised ...

So I wonder if anyone can find anything interesting about Dudley
You'll need an image. How about the left-hand half of this one.

(A view of the Eve Hill area of Dudley. The tower block, Prince of Wales Court, was demolished in 1999.)

Dudley is one of the biggest towns in the UK without a professional football team.

It is more famous for its speedway team - Cradley Heathens - which was based in Dudley. Although the town of Cradley Heath is actually just over the border in neighbouring Sandwell.

The speedway team have however been inactive for 12 years now since the stadium was sold for housing by it's owners. A new site has in fact just been found and there is a petition to support the return of the once famous club.

If anyone is interested in signing, you can access the petition using the link below.

There is also some news at www.cradleyspeedway.co.uk
