A pooter is a useful gadget for picking up small insects and depositing them into a collecting chamber. It works like a vacuum cleaner. You simply suck through the rubber tubing while directing the shorter plastic tube over your target to draw them into the chamber.

We had one as a prop on the show once (question: What use is a coleopterist without his pooter?) and it was sort of fun for picking up little bits of Smarties, but that was a very rich show and the pooter got cut for lack of space. It's one of the bits that might make it into an outtakes show, I would think.
