Norway again, the scenery is like Scotland turned up to 11. The crime rate is low and the further north you go the better it gets. Oslo is nice, but looks like any other capital city. Go to Trondheim, the second city where the kings and queens are crowned. Then just carry on north into the arctic circle and over the top to Finland.

Yes its politically stable, but no less interesting for it. We met very few Brits when we were there, which is what I want when travelling.

I'm taking the train from Bergen -> Oslo -> Trondheim -> Narvik, which should be fun. I'm going in September, so I might get to see the Northern Lights. (We missed them by 1 night when we went to Enontekio a couple of years ago, which was a shame).

I'd absolutely love to spend a few months in Tibet and the surrounding region. Oh, and doing the "Round the World in 80 Days" thing sound pretty awesome too. Would also be cool to somehow get to work in Antarctica, though I'm thinking they probably only employ two or three doctors as a continent.

I can thoroughly recommend the North Antrim coast in Northern Ireland.
I have a distant cousin who lives at Glenarm, and I have just visited for the second time in 2 years. (There is a holiday cottage just up the hill from him!)
Easy reach of Rathlin Island, Giant's Causeway, and I even managed to get to Newgrange, the neolithic site, and back in one day (by gettting up at 0545)

Do you always make that noise when you're pre-occupied with the South Pole?

It is the most amazing place though. I'm going go try and stowaway on a flight to there when I'm in Christchurch.

India's fantabulouso. Only spent 2 weeks there, but it was certainly enough to get a feel for the place.

Hubby and I have talked about going to Egypt, it's just a matter of when. Probably when the Lumplets are off our hands - only another 16 years or so, I guess we'll still be in our 50s, so we should be able to do it...Heck, we'll qualify for Saga Holidays then...maybe not.

Why not take your kids to Egypt with you, Lumpo? I'm sure they'd enjoy it.

There's a strong chance I'll be spending a week in Istanbul at the beginning of September. I have a list of places I want to visit while there--any one care to help me extend this list? :)
