£665.99 is 'the retail price of the Beast'

25.8068 is 'The Root of All Evil' (the square root of 666)

Revelation! 666 Is Not the Number of the Beast (It's a Devilish 616)

The Independent

A newly discovered fragment of the oldest surviving copy of the New Testament indicates that, as far as the Antichrist goes, theologians, scholars, heavy metal groups, and television evangelists have got the wrong number. Instead of 666, it's actually the far less ominous 616.

The new fragment from the Book of Revelation, written in ancient Greek and dating from the late third century, is part of a hoard of previously unintelligible manuscripts discovered in historic dumps outside Oxyrhynchus in Egypt. Now a team of expert classicists, using new photographic techniques, are finally deciphering the original writing.

RFID chips are the latest (in a long line of) things to be associated with The Sign Of The Beast.
Quote:
But one aspect of Albrecht's anti-RFID crusade has been attracting a lot of attention from other privacy groups: her religious beliefs.

Albrecht does not often discuss her religious views with reporters. But she believes that RFID technology may be part of the fulfillment of the Mark of the Beast prophesied in the Book of Revelation.

Bet that sells well in middle America.

I wonder if the entities living at No. 664 and 668 complain about the smell...

Seat no 666 in the European Parliament has been left unoccupied, according to Ian Paisley:

Quote:
Revelation 13:18: "Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." That is 666.

Today this scripture is being fulfilled before our very eyes.

The Antichrist's seat will be occupied. The world awaits his full and final development. The Lord will destroy him by the spirit of His mouth (the Word of God) and by the brightness of His coming (2 Thes. 2:8). The coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

The black slave employed by the Venetian printer Manuzio was widely thought to be an imp, so he had this stuck up:
Quote:
I, Aldo Manuzio, Printer to the Doge, have this day made public exposure of the printer's devil. All who think he is not flesh and blood may come and pinch him.

Proclamation of Aldo Manuzio, 1490.

When the A666 passes through Bolton it's known as the thoroughly less satanic St Peter's Way.

Though having spent the past 2 years queueing on it daily, I'd say it's pretty evil.

More from that Indie article:

Quote:
Professor David Parker, Professor of New Testament Textual Criticism and Paleography at the University of Birmingham, thinks that 616, although less memorable than 666, is the original. He said: 'This is an example of gematria, where numbers are based on the numerical values of letters in people's names. Early Christians would use numbers to hide the identity of people who they were attacking: 616 refers to the Emperor Caligula.'

... Peter Gilmore, High Priest of the Church of Satan, based in New York, said: 'By using 666 we're using something that the Christians fear. Mind you, if they do switch to 616 being the number of the beast then we'll start using that.'

And from the Canadian National Post:

Quote:
Ellen Aitken, a professor of early Christian history at McGill University, said the discovery appears to spell the end of 666 as the devil's prime number.

"This is a very nice piece to find," Dr. Aitken said. "Scholars have argued for a long time over this, and it now seems that 616 was the original number of the beast."

"This is very early confirmation of that number, earlier than any other text we've found of that passage," Dr. Aitken said. "It's probably about 100 years before any other version."

Dr. Aitken said, however, that scholars now believe the number in question has very little to do the devil. It was actually a complicated numerical riddle in Greek, meant to represent someone's name, she said.

"It's a number puzzle -- the majority opinion seems to be that it refers to [the Roman emperor] Nero."

That sounds like a bit of a Dan Brownism...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louvre_Pyramid

Quote:
The story of the "666 panes" originated in the 1980s, when the official brochure published during construction did indeed cite this number (even twice, though a few pages earlier the total number of panes was given as 672 instead). The number 666 was also mentioned in various newspapers. The Louvre museum however states that the finished pyramid contains 673 glass panes (603 rhombs and 70 triangles). A higher figure was obtained by David A. Shugarts, who reports that according to the offices of I.M. Pei, the pyramid contains 698 pieces of glass (Secrets of the Code, edited by Dan Burstein, p. 259). Various attempts to actually count the panes in the pyramid have produced slightly discrepant results, but there are definitely more than 666.

Dan Brown is mentioned in the next paragraph, in fact.

We could probably spend a whole series debunking Dan Brown books - but it seems at the moment that the mistakes he made might save him a fortune.

Maybe the mistakes were intentional like those dictionaries and arabian rugs.

Also, there are hidden, coded clues in the mistakes that all point towards an alien race amongst us. I expect.

Conversely Moloch, the Canaanite deity/ritual of death by fire (a Jewish friend tells me the name means The King or The Ruler IIRC) is seen in Judeo-Christian texts as St. Michael, the angel of death, Michael means who is your god or who resembles god.

Moloch has additionally been postulated as a god of the sun and associated with Neregal.
