Q: Name something made of celluloid.

F: Film
A: Ping Pong balls, collar stiffeners, and not much else.

Originally patented for waterproofing clothing, one early use was as an ivory substitute for billiard balls, and then for photographic film - it made moving pictures possible because it obviated the need for rigid glass plates. One reason why it is hardly used any more is that it decomposes, which is one of the problems faced by film conservators. It's also inflammable.

It has been mostly replaced by cellulose acetates and polyethylenes.
