anyway , I have to addpone extra rule
the numbers have to be CONSEQUITIVE(e.g-I,II,III,IIII,V &c &c)
so, may I begin with
(note the original race had the numbers run to five thousand)

dr bartolo, just note that these forums are limited in capacity and subject to regular pruning of old or irrelevant posts in order to keep free space open for true discussion of interesting things. While your enthusiasm for starting new threads has sparked some discussion, there really can be little more irrelevant a thread than a simple progression of numbers, and I've no doubt that a moderator would agree.

I'm not playing until "consecutive" is spelled properly.

You just did that.

I had CDXCIX, all ready...

That used to be used for four. And still is on clocks unless I am mistaken. I don't think I am this time...

When I learned Latin (not long after it was deemed a 'dead' language) both IIII and IV were considered acceptable.
I suppose IV now means a drip in hospital to most people, or something that grows up old walls

IV used to mean Jupiter, which is why they used IIII for four.

Oooo - so IV is a new-fangled invention... I might just buy myself a digital watch to celebrate...

I wonder if there's a market for a digital watch using roman numerals?
