As the more astute amongst you may have realised, today marks the official tenth anniversary of the QI Talk Forums.

Precisely 10 years ago today (at 21:22:56 BST to be precise), the very first post to these forums was created by user idlerdan to the thread about The Battle of Hastings.

We never like to stick to tradition here at QI Towers, so it's perhaps unsurprising to find that the very first post was post number 2!

I'm sure everyone here has their favourite posts on these forums, and maybe you can suggest your own. in the meantime, for your delectation, here are some milestone posts.

Post number 10 came courtesy of Flash. It too was in the Battle of Hastings thread. Clearly a popular thread at the time.

That's borne out by the fact that Post 100 was also in this thread, this one coming from our tame Scottish author Frances.

By the time of Post 1,000, we'd finally slipped the surly bonds of the Battle of Hastings thread. This post is worth noting since it consists largely of our esteemed creator and leader professing his general ignorance.

Post 10,000 demonstrates the abilities of our pet historian Frederick The Monk as he delivers an interesting lesson about St. Rumwold's day

Clearly nostalgia had taken hold by the time of Post 100,000 as we find ourselves back in the Battle of Hastings thread once again, courtesy of cornixt.

Our one millionth post was from sally carr and was quite short and sweet for such a colossal milestone, though I guess you could argue that it's still tangentially related to the Battle of Hastings!

For those of your who prefer interesting graphs to break up a large sea of text, here's a plot of the number of registered users at each of the last 10 years of the forums. You can see how popular we've become as the show has gone from strength to strength.

For anyone wondering, that first column is not quite completely empty. There were in fact three registered users at the time of the first posting, though it's obviously hard to see such a small number on this graph.

At this juncture I'd like to thank each and every one of the 25,131 registered users who've helped to make these forums such an interesting and (intellectually) stimulating corner of the internet with our grand total of 1,024,004 posts (and counting!)

Special mention must go to Icarus who managed to set the record for the most number of posts in one day, notching up a heroic 151 on Tue Oct 19 2004. Mostly these were additions to the Delightfully obscure words thread, so perhaps that's cheating.

And before anyone thinks of trying, there will be no further kudos for setting such a daft record in the future so please don't bother. Instead, try using your abilities and energies for more useful things than spending hours stuck in front of a computer :)

One last piece of interestingness: it seems the QI series are getting harder to research (or perhaps there are just more elves doing more research these days).

Back in the dark old days of the B series, the elves' research forums saw a grand total of 3,300 posts (in fact, it was probably slightly less than this since these research forums have since been made public and other people have added their own thoughts).

This figure has been steadily rising over the years and the most recent series (the 'K' series) saw a grand total of 6,432 posts in the elves' research forums.

Hopefully this gives you some idea of the level of work involved in crafting the excellent QI shows that you see on your TV every Friday night (or about 50 times a week on Dave).

By the way, you may have noticed the new party theme for the forums. If you're finding this incredibly annoying, you can still view the old-style forums here.

Another interesting fact is that the Random Factoids thread is not only by far the longest thread on the forums*, but it also starts with a fact about Weddell seals which has just found its way into the latest QI book, "1,339 QI Facts to Make Your Jaw Drop" (available at all good bookshops in a month or so)

*again, please don't try to break this record

That probably means your browser is caching the old background.

Just hold down the shift key while pressing the reload button on your browser and your forums should be transformed into celebratory goodness.

You can try blowing them out if you want, but Quite Interesting Limited accepts no liability for the repairs to or cleaning of your monitor that becomes necessary as a result :)

I hope Q.I.ltd has a full documented risk assessment around sending naked flames to so many locations without the requisite fire precautions...
