Locusts bask in the sun to slow down infections, similar to the way warm-blooded animals' bodies react with a fever.

Admittedly, my source - a wikipedia article on an experimental programme to control locust populations with fungal infection - only mentions it briefly and what details it does give are for grasshoppers rather than locusts, but I still found it interesting.

People from Linlithgow (on the wonderfully tongue-twister-y Linlithgow Loch) are called Black Bitches.

This is because of the black female dog on the town's coat of arms and the accompanying story about a loyal dog saving her master's life.
Sources include the Linlithgow Pride and Passion Steering Group's
website and this article from The Scotsman explaining that the Star Trek character Scottie is from Linlithgow.

Alex Salmond, the First Minister of Scotland, is also a Black Bitch.

You mean he will be from Linlithgow as he won't be born until 2222.

Florence Lawrence is arguably the world's first movie star. Carl Laemmle, who owned a movie company and wanted Lawrence for a picture, started the rumor that she had been killed in New York. Later, he "exposed" the lie, and added the further embellishment that fans were so ecstatic to see her alive that they tore her clothes as they swarmed around her.

She also invented the brake light and the turn signal.

John Locke was the first self-published author to sell over one million e-books.

Um... obviously it's a different John Locke.

The longest lease in history was on a right of way in Mullingar for 10 million years. Alternatively, according to Ripleys Believe it or Not, the Gilbert House in Baume, France, is occupied under a lease which is equal to length of time required for an 'ant to drink the ocean and for a tortoise to complete a trip around the Earth.' The second half is only around three years whereas the first is infinite, as the ant doesn't drink as such. Also the salt content may give it hypertension.

It used to be believed that the urine of a lynx would harden into a precious stone called lynx-water or Lapis lyncurius, depending on who you asked. It was also thought that they buried their urine because they were jealous, and wanted to hide the precious stones from humans. Which explains the behavior of my cat, actually...

Lice:

The head louse can't, in contrary to what some people think, jump, because of it's short stumpy legs.

An infection with a head louse is called: Pediculosis, but has nothing to do with unhygienic life circumstances (as people often think). It's true that lice can spread faster in groups of people with unhygienic life circumstances, but lice have preference for clean and washed hair.

The national anthem of Lesotho is "Lesotho Fatse La Bontata Rona". Written by François Coillard, a French missionary, it appears in the popular computer game "Sims 2: University" as the theme from a videogame console.

Abraham Lincoln signed legislation that created the US Secret Service the same day that he was assassinated. Though at the time the Secret Service was only responsible for investigating counterfeiting.

The first sports car Ferruccio Lamborghini made was a modified Fiat Mickey Mouse (at least when translated from the Italian). The only popular car Lamborghini did not named after a bull was the Countach, which is dip drives from a Piedmontese excalmation said when one sees a beautiful woman.

That claim appears in a lot of English language sources, and seems first to have appeared in a 2005 book about luxury cars. (Edsall, L (2005). Legendary Cars. Vercelli, Italy: White Star.)

Italians aren't entirely sure what it means, though. Some claim that it's what you said if a person with plague came nearby, the sense being something like "Look out, contagious person". Some claim it as a Piedmontese exclamation along the lines of "WTF", and others give it the meaning which you describe.

I have heard it said that it's a typo for c***-ache, because it usually has an enormous dick inside it.
