The Konami Code was originally created for the game Gradius by game developer (and another K) Kazuhisa Hashimoto. He was finding the game too difficult to complete so he implemented an in-game command that gave him maximum power from the outset. That command became known as the Konami code.

It goes:

Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A.

The "code" became well known with the release of Contra in 1986, where it gave the player ten extra lives. It has appeared in some way in many Konami games as well as dozens of non-Konami titles, but has also made its way into popular culture.

A list of websites that have used the Konami code as a joke include:
Facebook - created a lens flare on the website

Marvel - A groundhog wearing the mask of "Deadpool" appears

Newsweek - An article about a fake zombie invasion appears

Google Reader - Ninjas appear on the left portion of the screen

ESPN - The screen is covered with pictures of unicorns

Digg - Photos from articles with change to Rick Astley, "Never Gonna Give You Up" begins to play

Welcome GLHFScan :-)

How do you post this code? Is this from an X Box or Playstation or some similar console? I can't work out what the B, A bit means.

It's the A and B buttons on the console's controller.

I remember another game that used DULLARD (down, up, left, left, A, right, down) as a cheat code, but I can't remember which game it was and what the code enabled.
