Someone (or two or more) is going to challenge the party leader (in this case Tony Abbott) for the leadership position. The party will vote and if Abbott loses we will have a new PM.

(brief explanation from my best friend on the Book of Faces to her American friends re our current political situation)

'free' pollination by bees is worth $5 million. 75% of our honeybee hives are wild, with 25% being with farmers, beekeepers, etc. In American these figures are reversed, so the colony collapse disorder (CCD) that's occurred there doesn't have as much of an impact as it will on ours. Not here yet, I read a book from the Ath. (I think!) about all this in the last couple of years.

Bees evolved from wasps 120 million years ago, with flowering plants evolving 160 M years ago.

Apiarists go to the docks to check the ships that come in. There are 1600 sentinel hives around Australia, mainly in the port cities. Aluminium masts of boats/ships are hollow, perfect for a nest!

Smugglers place up to 3 queen bees inside empty pen cartridges to bring them back, so the Customs beagle dogs then had to be trained to detect bees inside a pen!

We have 1700 native bee species - some are black and don't look like the traditional bee shape at all, saw lots of enlarged x 10, 20, images. (I think I may have seen one just recently in my backyard, Zac lunged for it and chased it around) And I'm wondering if that black one with blue wings that we both spotted a few years ago now, around the Malvern area, is another type. Don't know that I ever made a full ID of that at the time.

5 main 'families' within those species - long and short tongue varieties. only 300 long and 1400 short. Why? Because of the proliferation of gum trees, their flowers are shallow, so more short tongue varieties developed. Though (and we saw video of these) short tongues can get to nectar in flowers designed for long tongue - by piercing the petal from the top, hanging on for dear life just by the mandibles on both sides of the mouth/jaw.

Most of the images shown were from amateurs, like us, with cameras/phones, out on walks, etc, seeing bees. A program called 'citizen science' is around to enable people to share their pics directly with the experts.

The guy could have gone on for hours about bees- obviously his passion.

The standard at CSU is three weeks as the maximum turn-around period for on-time assignments. Clearly, anything later than this is of concern, and I have followed up with the lecturer accordingly. As you're probably aware, she has been experiencing some health issues recently, and this was in large part the cause of the delay. Suzanne is prioritising any earlier assignments still outstanding -- you should have it back any day now, if not already. For the future, we are putting a plan in place to deal with these health issues more adequately, so that assignments can still be returned on time.

I'm very sorry your experience in this subject was not up to standard. We do realise the importance of timely feedback on assignments, and I hope that this is the last time you experience such a long delay.
