And there I was blaming the Southern Cross Cable... Someone at work yesterday was commenting how all of NZ's (and a large chunk of Oz's web traffic) travels down one cable and they thought someone in a little fishing boat damaged it when he dropped his anchor on it.

Glad someone found a large enough band-aid to fix the problem.

Today I recommended the QI Talk Forums to readers of my blog, and already two of them have emailed me to say they are unable to access (much less process) the registration process.

I presume this is the same process that Bondee described above.

I don't know what to tell them other than to return to the site intermttently and try to catch the system when it is working.

Up till midnight GMT it was 'up and down like a whore's drawers'.
Behaving so far this morning.
Thinking about it, QI.com suffers remarkably few cyber-snags, for which we should all be truly grateful!

That was thanks to me disabling new registrations yesterday in case the problems we experienced were caused by a raft of Chinese cyber bullies swamping the system.

I've re-enabled them now, so people should be able to register properly once more.

Do these Chinese cyber-bullies perhaps think QI are something to do with their life force?

There seemed to be a bit of a hiccup mid-afternoon today.

More a sort of 'hold your breath until you faint' really.

Is it just me or is there a problem with how the forum pages are displaying? I'm getting large white chunks obliterating sections of the pages and sometimes, for example, the middle section of a page is offset.

That's you, I'm afraid.

I'm not quite sure what difference - if any - it would make in the particular instance, but clearing cookies and rebooting your router often clear up odd problems like that.

Thanks, Suze. Seems to be okay now.

It seems to have been behaving the last few days or so.
<Fingers X'ed, touching wood, throwing salt over shoulder, etc.

One of the cardinal rules at work is never to say anything along the lines of "Isn't it quiet", as this is liable to precipitate a motorway Armageddon. It is, indeed, referred to as "the Q word"

I've probably done it now, haven't I?

Sorry.
