I'm glad it wasn't just me.

I managed to log in, but every time I clicked on a link, the page would hang for a dog's age before giving me a phpBB : Critical Error Could not connect to the database and webpage not available notification.

As I have said elsewhere, I have been deeply distressed by the prospect of having to do actual work today.

Ah - so you're admitting that the whole international banking crisis was caused by the regulators posting on QI when they were supposed to be keeping an eye on the banks...

The site appears to be behaving itself again. And all data restored -- I had nightmare visions of empty threads being all they could get back up.
Not the end of the wor.....

And there I was blaming the Southern Cross Cable... Someone at work yesterday was commenting how all of NZ's (and a large chunk of Oz's web traffic) travels down one cable and they thought someone in a little fishing boat damaged it when he dropped his anchor on it.

Glad someone found a large enough band-aid to fix the problem.

Today I recommended the QI Talk Forums to readers of my blog, and already two of them have emailed me to say they are unable to access (much less process) the registration process.

I presume this is the same process that Bondee described above.

I don't know what to tell them other than to return to the site intermttently and try to catch the system when it is working.

Up till midnight GMT it was 'up and down like a whore's drawers'.
Behaving so far this morning.
Thinking about it, QI.com suffers remarkably few cyber-snags, for which we should all be truly grateful!

That was thanks to me disabling new registrations yesterday in case the problems we experienced were caused by a raft of Chinese cyber bullies swamping the system.

I've re-enabled them now, so people should be able to register properly once more.

Do these Chinese cyber-bullies perhaps think QI are something to do with their life force?

There seemed to be a bit of a hiccup mid-afternoon today.
