If it came in wodden crates, you could also fashion a reasonably sized raft once you'd finished it all :)

If I finished it all, I'd need a raft the size of Devon...

When Roy Plumley was presenting he rejected a request for a snooker table as it could be used for shelter, Sue Lawley is much more generous but even she would probably reject survival books & fishing rods unless of course you were allowed the fishing rod but no hooks.

I would rather have 8 books & 1 record & my luxury item would be the British Museum Library complete with cafe.

Surely that would be disqualified as a shelter?

There are 27 different species of gull, not all of which live by the sea. There is even a Mongolian gull. There is no reason why they wouldn't live on a desert island as the word 'desert' in this case simply means 'uninhabited'.

If I asked for miss Brook for her skills as a conversationalist she woule be disallowed as being useful.
I would request her for purely recreational reasons ;-D

The pendant was wrong - as pendants often are. Although people imagine desert islands to be tropical there is no reason why it has to be. An island in the Orkneys could be 'desert' if there was no one living there.

But then the gulls still don't go with the music, whose lyrics mention 'a tropical moon' (though they aren't sung on the version played).

[pedantic]Tropical moon is an astronomical term, and can therefore shine on any island, desert or not, in any part of the world.[/pedantic]

So the Outer Hebridean island of Mingulay is a desert island?

Hmmm, don't think I'd fancy being stranded there, with or without Kelly Brook :)
