Sycamore Gap, a section of Hadrian's Wall between two crests just east of Milecastle 39, is locally known as the "Kevin Costner Tree" for its use in the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

The funniest factual error in the movie is when Robin and his Moorish companion stand at the foot of the white cliffs of Dover and Robin tells him: "By nightfall we will dine with my father!" Quite a feat, since Nottinghamshire is about 200 miles away and this pair are travelling on foot.
It gets even better when you add the mileage to Sycamore Gap.

[I know - I'm smuggling a bit here - it prolly should have gone under the 'C' , but hey...]

Dover to Nottingham, via Northumberland. And they didn't even have a satnav.

I do remember seeing a Harrison Ford movie set partly in London where he was on a Tube line that was totally impossible but took in all the requisite well-known tourist spots.

Looking for a well-known Joshua Tree can be dangerous.

I remember the night we went to Birmingham by way of Beachy Head - I thought that was even before the Romans came to Rye.

Sorry, had to get that off my Chesterton...

I shurely beat that when I drove from Rotterdam to Vlaardingen via the Botlek and ended up in Oostvoorne. You can google that disaster trip if you want, but take my word for it - it was a mind-boggling detour.
One tiny wrong turn-off....

A group of us visited this tree on a trip to Hadrian's Wall when I was studying abroad in Lancaster. Pretty spot.

And makes it a difficult descent after rain. The steep stone steps are lethal when slippery. I lived to tell.
