Spurred into action by Efros' news of his Godson representing Scotland in the U20 Calcutta Cup match I've decided to start this thread a couple of days early.

Wales have not yet announced their team to play Ireland but there are understandable worries following the displays of the Autumn. Here's an 'in a nutshell' analysis of the sort rarely seen on English television.

Wales Uncovered

and here's a similar, if less denuding, look at Ireland.

Ireland Uncovered

Shameless National Fervour

Now we might expect England to be quietly confident after their historic victory over the Blacks but this quiet? I'd call it ominous, noisily quiet - a deafening hush portentious of a vigourous response to the high expectations many have for England this year. England vs Wales is on the last day this time round (13 March with France vs Scotland being the last actual match) but before that there are four other teams to beat, starting with Scotland.

The other opening day match is Italy vs France in Rome and while it would be a surprise if the Italians pulled it out of the bag it wouldn't be their first home win against France.

I feel the fever growing... or it might just be norovirus.

All I am prepared to say is that I doubt that either Scotland or Italy will win it. Other than that....

This is the first year my finance can wear a shirt for each of the teams competing as he has recently bought an England shirt (shiny purple as well).

The other year he wore his Welsh top to the pub and was accosted by a big fat bloke in a tightly fitting England top saying he should support his country. The finance pointed out he came to watch the match with two people of Welsh persuasion and supported the rugby, not the country.

Fat bloke was too drunk and gone by the time we left to cause the harm to my friends he said he was going to try.

The first of the 4 pictures of Mr Alexander Cheesman seems to show a different person to the following 3 of the same name.
And I definitely wouldn't call all of the males on offer hunks.

I notice that the ones posing sans kit all appear to have one odd shaped ball.

Not wishing to spoil anyone's fun but getting back to the actual rugby briefly there's still no news regarding the Welsh team selection for Saturday, presumably because of continuing uncertainty over the injury status of some players - Ryan Jones for instance dislocated a thumb recently but with Alun Wyn Jones, Luke Charteris, Dan Lydiate and Bradley Davies all unavailable for the first game and Ian Evans questionable selectors must be hoping Ryan J. will be available to bring some experience and versatility to a pack which perforce must contain a new cap or possibly caps.

England meanwhile have now revealed their team for the Calcutta Cup.

Goode (Saracens); Ashton (Saracens), Barritt (Saracens), Twelvetrees (Gloucester), Brown (Harlequins); Farrell (Saracens), Ben Youngs (Leicester); Marler (Harlequins), Tom Youngs (Leicester), Cole (Leicester), Launchbury (Wasps), Parling (Leicester), Wood (Northampton), Robshaw (Harlequins, capt), Morgan (Gloucester).

Replacements: Hartley (Northampton), Wilson (Bath), Vunipola (Saracens), Lawes (Northampton), Haskell (Wasps), Care (Harlequins), Flood (Leicester), Strettle (Saracens).

Haverhill is now covered in fog...

... is it OK for me to say at this point that I used to be a hooker?
