That's a heck of a fact-cluster, Mr McK!

And what a lovely idea for a thread...

When I was at school we used to pronounce 'The Mekon' as mee-kon but thinking about it since, I suppose it was meant to sound like 'Mekkon'.

Do you know, one way or t'other?

Definitely Mee-Kon. I was still at school in England when Eagle first appeared, I have a prominent forehead and a similar surname, but non-green skin, so I suffered somewhat. Left school 1951, and continued to read Eagle at work, also New Scientist, which appeared roughly the same time as Eagle.

But this is marvellous!

And there's me thinking I was The Senior Officer Present as my Dad used to say. I was born in 1951.

My (similar) problem at school was that my surname is Lloyd and I tended to go rather red when running. Just my luck that Pink Floyd started to get famous...

In the Vatican every wall is plastered with plaques of the Mekon talking to little chubby children - possibly his dinners. They pretent they're Popes with cherubs, but any Eagle reader can see the truth.
