This is the game thread for Extreme Countdown. The rules are simple, you get the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, and may combine them using any standard functions to reach the target number. You may only use each number once, although you don't have to use all the numbers.

For example, to make a target of 1,000,000, you would do (5x2)^6, completing the puzzle with three spare numbers.

Scoring will be worked out as follows:
Within 5% of the target number - 1 point
Within 3% - 2 points
Within 2% - 3 points
Within 1% - 5 points
Within 0.5% - 7 points
Spot on - 10 points

Two bonus points are awarded for each number left unused, if you successfully reach the target number.

The first target number is 123,456.

I'll post my best solution in a few days time :)

Please define the complete list of "standard functions" since such an omission will cause much debate here, one persons standard is another's (red) flag.

(5!+2+1)*((6+4)^3)=123000

Is decimal point allowed?

(.1 * 3)^-4 * (.6-.5) ~~ 123456.790

If it isn't, then

[ 3^(2/4/6)-1 ]^-5 ~~ 123459.755

Omitting 1 digit the best I can find is

(1+2*6)^5 / 3 = 123764 1/3

This seems quite a good game, can't believe its not taken off what with all the intellect on here, maybe everyones thinking a little too hard and it takes a simple addled brain like mine to come up with an answer

2871 x 43 + 9 - 6 = 123456

that only took me a few minutes (or am I missing something)?

Easy - 123456 = 123456.

PS: Yes - you're missing something, wiz.
