What are we saying here? Are we saying that all insects of the species in question are female, since they are clones of their mothers?

I don't understand the biology involved, so I'll take it as a given that these creatures have the ability to clone themselves, and so the species can continue indefinitely. But how could the species have evolved without males?

Even in cloning there is a certain amount of mistakes in the copying, so changes in the DNA can occur.
