In s03e04, Stephen asks about WWII:
Quote:
Stephen
Now, one last chance to even things out by awarding yourselves a few points in the mad sprint for the finishing line that we call General Ignorance. Buzzers. In which year did the second World War end?

Alan
[presses buzzer, which cuckoos]
[forcefully] 1945!

[Forfeit: Klaxons sound. Viewscreens flash the date "1945".]

Stephen
No! What a pity. Who was the war between and against?

Alan
Germany and Britain.

Stephen
Germany--

Alan
America and Japan . . .

Stephen
Now, what happened . . . What . . . There was a peace--

Alan
Accord.

Stephen
--Accord, of Paris--

Alan
Yes.

Stephen
--in 1947, but where was Germany? There was no Germany, was there?

Jeremy
Well, there was . . .

Stephen
There were two.

John
So it ended in 1990, when you unified Germany--

Stephen
--is the right answer. When Germany became one country again.

... I thought Germany was divided in 1949?

1949 is the creation of the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic, but division had taken place in 1945 at Potsdam.
