I'm concerned that Stephen Fry is under the misapprehension that celery is a food which consumes more calories than it gives. When I can be bothered, I shall check out some proof that it is just an urban myth.

They tell you that at weight watchers..carrots and celery. I'm fairly sure I read about it on snopes but I just decided, well, they're both healthy and take alot of chewing, it's not like it's the most preposterous urban myth ever to see the light of day.

Celery and some other watery veg such as cucumber and broccoli are 'negative value' foods. That is, they consume more calories than they provide, although most of the energy is consumed in the digestion rather than the chewing. Drinking a glass of cold water is also 'negative value' as it taked energy to raise the water to body temperature.

However, if one really wants to lose weight then the advantage of such foods lies in the fact that they are to be eaten in place of biscuits and chocolate. One would have to eat of lot of celery to work off a box of maltesers.

Yes, this pricked the pointy-ears of the elves as well. However a quick look at snopes and straightdope shows that maybe Stephen was technically correct.

If you can find a decent debunking Jimmy then I reckon it would make a decent gen ig question. May be a bit late for this series though...

:-P

Tonight's guests were Phill Jupitus (again :-D ), Graeme Garden and Johnny Vaughan...and it was a bit disappointing I thought which was a shame....maybe the edit will be better this time :-)

Only 2 to go - what WILL I do with my evenings after them? Oh yes, I'm going to leave the country!

Was it me or did Stephen incorrectly link to Phil's score?

Phil predicted 14 points and Stephen said he was only out by 7 as he had 6 points!!!

Well a big MERRY CHRISTMAS to all who read this (and so as not to leave others out....to those who don't read this as well!).

Tonight's guests were Jo Brand, Rich Hall and Dara O'Briain and it was superb....we even found out some secrets about the Queen we probably wish we didn't know ;)
