In the re-run shown last Saturday night I am sure I heard Jimmy Carr claim that all native mammals of Australia are marsupials, and was even more amazed that this 'fact' appeared to go uncontested.

Did I hear this right?

That's what he said, and it's apparently contradicted by
Aussie Info, which states:
Quote:
Australia is home to a variety of native mammals both on land and in the surrounding oceans. They consist of marsupials, monotremes and placental mammals. The largest number of the mammals, almost half, are the marsupials, which include the Kangaroo, Koala and Wombat.

The next group of mammals are the monotremes, the only egg-laying mammals in the world. They have one opening which serves for reproduction and for the elimination of waste products. This group is represented by the Platypus and the Echidna.

The other native land mammals are the bats, rats, mice and the Dingo.

(emphasis is mine)

But Stephen said that Marsupials are not Mammals. I do hope we aren't questioning Stephen, are we?

We've addressed this over here:

post 26339

He did (mistakenly) make that comment. We all know, however, that monotremes and some relatively recent eutherian arrivals (including bats, dingoes, rats and rabbits) make up some of the other mammal population.

Yes, I was a bit shocked when Stephen said marsupials are not mammals.
Was this from his notes or did he just say it off the top of his head?

Well you've got the name... you've got the words... you've got the drugs (enumbers anyway)... I think if you can write a rhyme for skittles, then yes.

I find this very notion of rapping for skittles delightful. And so does my bitch.

Excellent, we've got a skittles rap competition going. Whodhavethoughtit.

If you use a rare word like "victuals", doesn't that make it poetry though? ;)
