How many locks to heaven?

The Caen Hill flight of locks in Devizes has been voted one of the seven wonders of the inland waterways. It lifts the Kennett and Avon Canal 237 feet through 29 locks known as the twenty nine locks to heaven.
Fifteen of the locks rise close together in a straight line with wide side ponds to store sufficient water for the locks to operate.

In the canal's heyday the company provided gas lighting at the flight so that boats and barges could work on through the night on payment of a lighting toll. Canal companies did not normally allow navigation at night.

There once were two threads on Devizes,
Whose lengths were of different sizes.
One thread was small -
Almost no thread at all -
But the other was large and won prizes.

Impressive stuff.

I believe it's sixteen locks in a row, though, isn't it?

In Britain's Lost Waterways by Micheal Ware it's fifteen with fourteen side ponds but they've found it again since that book came out.

The locks at the top of the straight continuous section are still very close but they have pounds between them that are just long enough to store enough water and they curve slightly to the North.

I like the picture.

Sorry I hadn't seen the other thread, it must be some way down.

Nope, still can't find it.

Devizes is of course also the home of the Wadworths Brewery.

I do beg your pardon, gerontius, the thread in question is on another site.

Must get more sleep...

Many apologies.
