Oooh what an elegant looking dog! Must be some interesting history attached to them that you could tell us about, Calli.

I think Salukis are quite pretty. Are they related to greyhounds, lurchers, and whippets? Well, I mean, technically all dogs are realted to each other, being dogs, but, you know what I mean...

That third picture looks like a character from Star Wars Episode 1 - don't know the name of it though (couldn't be bothered to watch it as it was just an extended advert for playstation games).

Salukis - also called Persian greyhounds - originate from around 6000 bc

They were / are coursing hounds that can run and run. They have flat muscles which allow them endurance.

They make fabulous house hounds as they are total pack animals with great sense of community.

i heard that salukis are pretty rare. is that true? and why? is it a price thing or are they just not well known?

Average price seems to be about $1500 for a pup.

I much prefer the hairier ones - never have gone in much for skinny dogs and the thicker coat sort of disguises it:

Still a lean machine - could give a greyhound a run for its money. I wonder, though (we've not got one) if that small head suggests a shortage of brainpower? For some reason setters are supposed to be daft, and these critters remind me a bit of a sort of Russian setter.

Apparently they are rather gentle souls (borzois) and you mustn't shout at them, and they get on well with cats... go figure.

A three-legged dog outrunning a greyhound?!
