Quote: | Coke without colouring is green. - Francine |
The original formula for Coca-Cola uses caramel to colour the drink brown. To this day, caramel is used as a colour additive. However, the brown colour was not given to hide the green one, but rather to hide the impurities that could be inside the drink, inherent to being invented in 1886 by a chemist and marketed as medicine.
Nowadays its unlikely that there are any impurities in Coca-Cola, but caramel is still used as a colouring agent possibly out of tradition.

Listen.. there is useless information and useless information... This surpasses even that.. There has to be something wrong with a person to chose to drink these carbonated things in the first place! To discuss it.. well.. I rest my case. |

There may not be a 'use' as such for this info, but it is still interesting. Historical, and it disperses misconceptions.
