Any clues as to why the scheduled programme wasn't shown?

Jeremy Clarkson made an impolitic joke.

Ah I see.

Isn't it about time he was dragged outside and shot?

And here's the release on "Immortal Bard": http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/olympiad/shakespeare/qi.html

For the Cultural Olympiad, the BBC's Shakespeare team will be competing in the ambition vault, the wild-goose chase and the iambic pentathlon, representing the United Kingdom (unless someone offers Stephen a horse).

Having stolen our anticipated new QI from us last night, they stole XL from us tonight - BBC2 chose to show snooker instead, and would have done exactly the same even had the XL due for broadcast not been a repeat.

We've had discussions before about QI being shunted around the schedules with little or no warning. Perhaps it's time to talk to other channels ...

I'm pretty sure it wasn't so much chose to show snooker as had to show Snooker.

Or maybe it's time to be grateful that the BBC continues to commission QI at all, and indeed commissioned the next series before this one even started. Just a thought.

It doesn't have to show snooker at all. Sports events over-running is one of the biggest causes of complaints made to the BBC (and indeed to other broadcasters), and the complaint is not always that the station stuck with the sport at the expense of the scheduled programming; it's nearly as often the other way around.

For sure it's a difficult issue, and you'll never please everyone. But when it comes to things which are pub games rather than proper sports, they really shouldn't get priority over anything very much.

As for how it comes to pass that the QI episode we're not allowed to see - the one that was supposed to be broadcast last night - is available on iPlayer, the terms "right hand", "left hand", "piss up", and "brewery" all come to mind ...

Coincidence - am listening to Tupelo Honey and spot the previous poster. :)

I'm confused. Tupelo Honey is the name of a band in which my #2 son is bass player. How come 'yorz, that you are aware of it over there?

You really wanna know? That'll cost ya.... :)

The name of the poster above my previous post is vantheman, which I spotted whilst listening to Tupola Honey (a number written by Van [The Man] Morrison) on a CD.

Listed on iPlayer but not available for download :(

It can be streamed directly from the iPlayer website itself, but I fear that's beyond the capabilities of my internet connection.

It's currently the third most popular item on iPlayer despite this.

When I got home last night I checked the Virgin Media* catch up and "QIXL" was available but it was the "iSpy" episode, not the "idleness" one.

The ISpy episode was the one that included the bit about the correct pronunciation of "ye olde pork pie shoppe". There was a question about the pronunciation of "ye" on "Brain of Britain" this week.

*Other medias are available.

The QIXL programme on Idleness was on the BBCiplayer on the Net but only for a short period of time.

Rather confirms that the BBC's right hand doesn't know what its left hand is doing. I don't take any great pleasure in suggesting that there might be something in bobwilson's view of the corporation, but ...
