Is it just my reaction, or does this really seem nuts?

This is, of course, a piece of American politics - the British never strike me as quite this barmy.

Is that a satire site? Personally I think it's pretty dumb, not to mention lazy.

Nope - not a satire. Wonkette can be satirical, but The Response she links to is, sadly, real.

Would that be the same British that just gave a knighthood to a game show host?

At least the USA has been spared "Sir Bob Barker". I guess every culture has its "barminess".

Bruce is rather more than just a "game show host" - he has had a long and successful career in show business including acting (comedy and straight) song and dance (including a period as a regular companion to some colonial no-hopers like Sammy Davis Jnr and Liza Minelli), performer, presenter, host of game and other shows, raconteur etc.

To call him "just a game show host" would be like calling Orson Wells "The guy from the sherry adverts".

Hmmm Sandeman.

Not the sherry advert but some Paul Masson outtakes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5LkDNu8bVU

Nothing about the GOP is surprising me these days. They need to get a grip of reality.

How does he know Jesus didn't get them into that situation in the first place? All part of god's divine plan and all that.

Anyway, just be thankful Dubya isn't still in the White House - he'd probably make it a national thing.

If I lived in Texas I would probably prefer Sir Bruce to be Governor than the guy they have at the moment.

I agree with PDR, to call Bruce simply a Game Show Host is like calling Ronald Reagan an actor.

Well this is Great News. Since God is now officially taking over Texas' affairs from August 6th (and given that He is both Omniscient and Omnipotent) - there can be no criminal acts in Texas after that date?

The meeting of the Daughters of the American Revolution I attended today was so Jesus-y. It really bothered me. I can totally believe that Texas would "put G_d in charge." If only there were a god to make Texas (or at least Rick Perry) sorry for such silly move. Mwah hahahaha.

I am sure God has quite enough on their plate without having to be in charge of Texas as well.

Gods Secretary: "And here's your agenda for today, Oh Holy One".

God: "I'm in charge of Texas now? Who delegated that?"

Gods Secretary: "Well don't look at me, you're the omnipotent one!".

God: "The souls of all mankind versus looking after Texas? No contest. Next!"

The UK press don't seem to have started on this story yet...

Hardly comparable - Bruce is a pretty comopetent game-show host.

Howabout "...is like calling Tony Blair a walk-on in a Catherine Tate sketch"?
