I think that there should be an episode of the show where alan is against the best brains in Britain, to see how well they cope with the questions on QI.
Do You Agree? |

But how would you determine who the best brains in Britain are?
Welcome to the forums bigdave :-) |

| Plus, QI isn't so much a quiz show as a comedy show. And why don't comedians qualify as "best brains"? It's a different intelligence than, say, that of a physicist, but not necessarily inferior. |

Surely putting a comics intelligence against an academics intelligence for example would show how their brains differ in how they interpret certain questions though?
BTW Thanks Jenny and Zebra |

Knowledge and intelligence are not the same thing, a lot of QI is to do with knowledge of obscure material. Having a large bank of knowledge is not necessarily indicative of a high intelligence, being able to apply that knowledge in a useful/meaningful usually is.

Interesting idea, but I'm not sure it would work. In addition to defining 'great academic minds' I'm not sure if the differences would be that noticeable.
A good comedian has a quick mind and thinks laterally. Depending on their field of study---so do many academics.
Many of the comedians we've seen on the show have academic ties too. A few examples; Ben Miller was a great guest--he studied Quantum Physics. Dara O'Briain is another favorite of mine--and he studied Theoretical Physics.
It's a matter of entertainment too. So much of QI is either the ability too add something quite interesting on a wide variety of subjects or the ability to inject humor. One guest such as Brian Cox or Marcus du Sautoy could be fascinating. An entire panel --- not sure if they could find a balance that would be entertaining enough. |

Has recorded an appearance for the next series. We don't have broadcast dates yet, but he's on. (And he does not perform Things can only get better.) |
