Bemason's film choice last night was 'Donnie Darko'. I enjoyed it but, having worked with psychotic teenagers, I found it rather disturbing.

Tonight's choice is 'Her'. Weird but quite entertaining.

We watched Snowpiercer last night, which was an intriguing concept but a crappy ending.

Watched "The Interview" not entirely awful, just a bit shit in places.

Watched "Rare Christmas Tale (2010, Finnish). A different, rather dark, Santa story. Enough hinting at Finnish folklore to tempt me to google for any truths in the story, but a tad slow. Nice to see many old men with all nethers on display in the Arctic snow (so they're excused for wrinkledness) - not for the aesthetics, but the refreshingly absent Disney-sanitising.

Went to see 'Birdman' tonight with bemason (his choice as I knew nothing about it). Long time since I've seen a film like that. We thought it was very good. I'd like to see it again as I think there were little asides and references I missed first time.

I watched the first episode in season 5 of Downton Abbey last night. No spoilers from Brits who've already seen it please!

Also watched what is called on this side of the Atlantic, for some reason I can't fathom, "The Great British Baking Show". What's wrong with "Bake-Off"?

I think being Baked is a euphemism for being stoned, maybe something to do with that.

Ah maybe so.

I watched the first three episodes of Lilyhammer on Netflix yesterday - excellent stuff! Will watch more.

WE wathced quite abit of Lilyhammer, but personally I found the joke wore a bit thin quite quickly.
Of course, the Americn central character is played by a chap named Steve Van Zandt, who had already had a career in the music biz, playing geetar with some other chap, whose name escapes me.

Singers-songwriters at the BBC 2/4.

Harry Nilsson, Stealers Wheel, Billy Joel, and the like. Hmmmm.

I'm always happy when something Norwegian gets noticed outside of Norway, so go Lilyhammer!

The first season is very good, but now I've given up watching it, though, it got too "Norwegian chavvy." At least it's a good example of everything I don't like about the culture here. I always hated the guy with the '70s porn 'stache, hopefully for obvious reasons, and I am not happy they gave him a bigger role instead of focusing on the woman Steve's character was sort-of dating. They could have made it much more... family friendly, but instead they decided to appeal to the crowd with minds of zitty fourteen year old boys. Oh, well.

We're into season 2 now, and still enjoying it.

I'm watching live two blokes who are hanging by their fingernails (literally) off El Capitan (Yosemite).

As well as Lilyhammer (now working our way through Season 3) I'm watching The Good Wife, which is pretty good. One episode on my iPad sees me through a couple of miles on my treadmill at my (rather slow) pace.
