An update

post 920184
So, an update.
Having waited a couple of weeks for an Egyptian chappy to collect the package, I texted b-i-l yesterday to chase it up, which he duly did. I had a call this morning from Mrs TNT to say it would be collected today and, lo and behold, Mr TNT has just picked it up. All far more official than I'd expected so fingers crossed.
Slight niggle at the back of my mind as the address for delivery on the accompanying TNT consignment paperwork did not match the delivery address I'd been told to put on the envelope.
The address I'd put on was along the lines of:
Villa 7, Block 17023, back of Al Ahey Street, behind Alemar Centre, down the stairs and round the corner, Cairo, Egypt.
The address on the paperwork was more:
33, Abada Street, Cairo, Egypt.
From the sublime to the ridiculous.

HEL... I thought you might appreciate this quote, from another forum I'm on from an Aussie currently working in Eqypt:

Quote:
Once you have worked with Egyptians, you will quickly realise that they were incapable of anything remotely related to construction.
I therefore whole-heartedly believe in Aliens for the construction of the Pyramids et al.

You've not been listening to Desmond Dekker's lectures, have you? It wasn't the Egyptians that built them pyramids, it were the Israelites...

I like your quote, OE, it is perfectly accurate.

Egyptians all suffer from a 'fuck it, that's close enough, that'll do' attitude. Even the opticians are like it; I bought three pairs of glasses, in each pair the lenses have been ground slightly differently and none of them are quite right. My view of the world is now even more skewed than it was before.

I think the main problem is that Egyptians just don't like working.

I must admit Hassan, given their climate I can see why.

All these years I've been Egyptian and never known it!

Well, it's probably why I feel so at home here ;-)

I'm enjoying your blog, Hassan. Your P.O. trip was hilarious.

Thanks, nitwit.

I'm still waiting for the letter to arrive safely in England but, as it's only been a week, I guess there's still a few days to go before I should start getting worried.

I enjoyed the PO trip too. How long does mail normally take to get to England from Egypt, Hassan? It takes five days from here in Maine to the UK.

Well, ordinary post just doesn't work, apparently something like 95% of the mail falls through a black hole never to be seen again which is why we have to use DHL who take about three days to delver.

This was the first time I've risked the registered post and so far a week has passed and it's not arrived. I am trying not to worry about it but I can't help wondering if I wasted my money and ought to have just used DHL in the first place.

You've unsettled me now! I think it will be okay. He always uses TNT plus he lived in Oxford (where I live) for several years. It's in his interests that this go smoothly as it's my nephews' passports.Hopefully it'll be okay.

Keep us posted (no pun intended)

Received an email from b-i-l to say he's finally got my nephews' passports through. He says he may bring them over for a visit which would be exciting, if a little scary.
