Personally, I'm hoping that the responsibility of office and scrutiny from the international community will force the new President and his cabinet to moderate their views, which will probably put a split among their supporters and relegate the more extreme supporters to a smaller group.

On the plus side, the Egyptian knack for networking and always 'knowing a man who can" is definitely useful.

I've got to courier some documents to my b-i-l in Cairo. I e-mailed to ask him which address I should give and he's e-mailed back to say he has a contact in TNT and he'll come to my house to collect the documents!

You've unsettled me now! I think it will be okay. He always uses TNT plus he lived in Oxford (where I live) for several years. It's in his interests that this go smoothly as it's my nephews' passports.Hopefully it'll be okay.

I really think your posts tell us more about the real Egypt than anything else Mr Google can offer. Do you have a blog, hassan, or is this it?

Well, we've both got the same hair style. And what's wrong with an Egyptian fiver? You can buy (almost) lots with an Egyptian fiver ;-)
