I think I hit a loop - after about 25-odd hits I got thrown from kennis (knowledge) to geweten (known) and back.
Wiki entry was: Eric de Noorman (Dutch comic strip figure).

QI perhaps, but I doubt your younger son was telling the truth if he told you he discovered it: http://xkcd.com/903/ (hover over the main graph and read the title text/tool tip).

Naturally, many xkcd forumers have had a go at it: http://forums.xkcd.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=71411

Surely seeing it on xkcd counts as discovering? I don't think he was claiming to have originated it. Personally I saw it on tumblr (and posted about it on these forums) a couple of days before that xkcd comic, so there's no guarantee Ainee's son even got it from xkcd.

That's the first one I've found that didn't approach the Philosophy entry via the Mathematics or Science pages. It looks like Natural Science is the separate major category that links to Philosophy - in just 2 steps.

Wiki defines the Natural sciences as Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth science, Physics, Atmospheric science, Oceanography and Materials sciences which covers a lot of ground!

This thread seems to have settled into a game, so I'm moving it to the QI Games forum.
