There are two meanings here;

Or of course;

1931, Amer.Eng., probably shortening of morphadike, dialectal garbling of hermaphrodite, but bulldyker "engage in lesbian activities" is attested from 1921, and a source from 1896 lists dyke as slang for "the vulva."

Could make for some fun with Stephen Fry around ;)

Of course, there is the very obvious and juvenile joke about the little dutch boy, his finger, and a leaking dyke....

I wonder what the Americans make of the name of one of Britain's oldest and best brass bands, the Black Dyke Band.

There is the Devil's Dyke near Brighton. a large gash in the Downs. In the late 70s in the area there was a short-lived punk band, composed of women only, called the Devil's Dykes.....

I once saw some interesting graffiti in the London underground.
It was on a large poster advertising furniture I think.
It was a rather boring picture of a man and woman seemingly flirting.
Speech bubbles had been added.

She: "I'm a dyke".

He: "Does that mean I can put my finger in it?"

Sorry to lower the tone, I don't think it made it into the Nigel Rees books.
