Hi everyone. this is my first time here :)

I just saw Ep.16- History and I noticed an error in Stephen explanation of the workings of GPS.
In his explanation he refers to a GPS device as sending a signal up to the satellite. this is not the case and is wrong on two accounts:
firstly it's impossible to send a signal from such a low powered and small sized antenna device to a GPS satellite circling some ~20,000 km above it.
secondly, the signal is sent exclusively by the GPS sat. and is only received by the GPS device. the signal has the time encoded inside it along with the sat.'s orbit info and other relevant bits.

I hope this is the right place for my comments,
other then that, love the show!

Hi David, welcome to the site, hope you have fun.

I think this bit of info is one of those that seems to have been misworded, have a look at this thread:

Don't worry about not finding what you were looking for on the search, David B - this happens all the time.

We're well aware that the forum search isn't perfect, and even the research team sometimes fail to find stuff!
