i missed out on copying the equation for the exploding custard factory. can anyone tell me what it is please?

Ahh as far as I know it was respiration, which actually is the oxidation of glucose in a plant it produces energy, the equation is below:-
(Custard is a carbohydrate so the oxidation of custard is the same really..)


I think those state symbols are right..

A-level biology does come in handy.. occasionally.

It's the nearest approximation to exploding custard we could come by.

The equation needs balancing there, otherwise some atoms are being lost in the process. It should be:

C6H12O6(s)+6O2(g) --> 6CO2(g)+6H2O(g)

The water comes out as gas too, because it's so hot it appears as steam. This is the reason why the reaction is so incredibly destructive - gas takes up far more room than solid matter, and as you can see from the equation, 6 molecules of gas are suddenly turning into 12 molecules - the volume doubles and the explosion is this sudden escaping of hot gas.
