One request, if I may: can we please not get the guy who did H's hero-based cover? I can't be the only one who's not keen on that art. I'd have liked to see Hunt Emerson do it, or maybe Woodrow Phoenix. Or Jamie (Gorillaz, Hewligan's Haircut) Hewlett. Or Philip (Time Flies) Bond.

If I can make a couple of suggestions for 2012's cover artists - how about Oliver Frey (Trigan Empire, Dan Dare in the 1980s reboot of Eagle, ZZAP!64/Crash/The Games Machine mags, Thalamus' game inlays etc) or Wil Overton (SuperPlay, N64, NGC magazines). I'll try and dig up some examples of their work.

Here we go...

Oliver Frey

Gladiator-themed cover art for Crash magazine; ZZAP!64 issue 14 final cover, featuring likenesses of the staff: Roger Kean, Gary Penn, Gary Liddon, Julian Rignall, Sean Masterson, “Paul Sumner” (actually Dominic Handy) and the White Wizard.

Excerpt from Frey’s comic strip The Terminal Man, featured in both ZZAP! and Crash; ZZAP! cover art themed round the Sensible Software game Insects In Space. Main character: Saint Helen Bak. (Yes, really.)

Wil Overton

One-shot comic, Smart Bomb; cast shot of Gamecube game Star Fox Adventures (Wil works for Rare, the studio that created the game).

Sample page from Smart Bomb; concept art of Joanna Dark, protagonist of Rare’s Perfect Dark series.

Paul Kidby, since the Discworld books are so popular around here?

Maybe if we had Wil's anime-themed art for 2013's J(apan) annual?

I think my friend Daniel Bristow-Bailey should do it.
