Slavery in the UK

Saying that slavery was not illegal within the United Kingdom and its antecedents until 2009, is rather like saying that murder was not illegal until the Offences against the Person Act.

There has never been any basis in law for a person to be property, and though it may have taken a while for the case law to make this explicit, it has never been any other way.

mentor - this matter is under discussion in the Green Room thread which starts at post 759746. The point being made on the show was not a suggestion that it would have been legal to own a slave, of course.
